***UPDATE***
- I added sound so I sounds as disgusting as it looks!

BRAINS!...This is a 200 frame animation I made for a course about neurological disorders. Rendered in 3D Studio Max with Mental Ray. The hardest part was finding good reference images that I could match up in the viewport.

I found these-->[link] on istockphoto.com and I was able to make a model sheet in Photoshop. A basically just blocked out the main shapes of the brain and I made a cool looking brain texture using FilterForge---->[link] From there i made a displacement and bump map to get the extrusions without any unnecessary work. I animated the scale with a repeating out-of-range type and used a Noise modifier, and animated the phase to make it appear as if its rippling and pulsating. Total render time was about 3 hours and 20 minutes at 700x560,24 fps. I cut some of the dead weight off in Flash.

Overall it looks disgusting, which is what i was going for.

Here is the full animation:

i didnt even use a SSS on this one. Yea Max uses Mental Ray and it hass 4 different types of SSS shaders. But I ended up using a DGS Shader on it.

Isnt the DGS shader for glass? you know the SSS Shader would be good for the brain too...

DGS Shader as explaining in the help file is used for any material to get fast results.

Thank You. I was going to model all the crevices and indentations on the brain but i was on a time constraint and I need to get it done asap, so I ended up just making a displacement map, and I think it worked out well.

Hard to believe what a beautiful things can be created and/or stored inside something this awful... That pulsation is just too much for my eyes to swallow :)
Besides that it looks really well rendered!

lol, yea I only spent about a day on it. but I am currently redoing it. It is only 50% the original resolution. I cut it down so it will load faster. I am currently working on a High-rez version that I am making with After Effects.

how do u upload animated stuff, in which format?

I use Adobe Flash. What I do is I export a .png image sequence when I render and I import it to Flash. I give it a preloader and export to a .swf file and
:above:upload it to DA under Flash>Animations category.

Take a look at some of my older Flash animations -->[link] I have a traditional background in Flash. That's where I started before 3D. I got some awesome effects in Flash. It's a very powerful tool for web based media. I basically taught my self flash, and that's what I use on my job.
