This is a simple test a made to simulate volume inside a ball using a cloth sim in 3ds Max. I did this in 2 stages. First I simulated the ball by itself in a cloth sim applying Unyielding kinematics. Basically I animated the ball translating up on the z axis and let the sim take over afterward. I baked the animation into the object and made another sim in which the cloth plane reacts to the previous animation.
